A Lasting Legacy for Salmon: Introducing the Mossom Creek Hatchery Endowment Fund

The Mossom Creek Hatchery is proud to announce the launch of the Mossom Creek Hatchery Endowment Fund – a new and meaningful way for donors to support the long-term vision and environmental mission of our hatchery.

Operated by the Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society (BIMES), the hatchery has been a community-powered force for salmon conservation and education for nearly 50 years. Today, thanks to a new partnership with the Port Moody Foundation and under the professional fund management of the Vancouver Foundation, we are taking a bold step toward securing the future of Mossom Creek for generations to come.

“We are hopeful that by launching this endowment, we will secure funding that ensures BIMES will continue to operate well into the future and continue our focus on enhancing and protecting salmon, doing research, and educating our community,” said Kevin Ryan, President of BIMES.

Endowment funds are designed to generate stable, long-term income. As this fund grows, it will help cover Mossom’s core operational needs while expanding our capacity to offer hands-on environmental education, support field-based research, and protect local salmon habitats in a rapidly changing world.

“The Port Moody Foundation is pleased to partner with Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society (BIMES) in the establishment of the ‘Mossom Creek Hatchery Endowment Fund’. This new initiative with BIMES will provide a lasting financial legacy to support programs that inspire future generations of young learners and contribute knowledge to the healthy restoration of our salmon habitat,” said Robert Simons, President of the Port Moody Foundation.

We announced the new fund on June 11th, during a special celebration marking the 10th anniversary of our hatchery’s rebuilding after a devastating fire. The event brought together the original community of builders and supporters whose generosity and hard work helped Mossom rise again.

Looking ahead, 2026 marks Mossom Creek Hatchery’s 50th anniversary. This remarkable milestone underscores the importance of sustained, community-driven conservation efforts.

With your help, this endowment will ensure Mossom continues to thrive as a hub of education, science, and environmental stewardship.
