You have probably recently learned of the fire that has destroyed our beloved hatchery. The only items that survived are our coho smolts, the two tubs, and the raingear shed.

Help Rebuild Mossom Creek Hatchery & Education Centre As you may know, the Mossom Creek Hatchery building was devastated by a fire on December 11th, 2013. Our volunteers and the Burrard Inlet Marine Enhancement Society (BIMES) executive have profound gratitude for the outpouring of community kindness since the fire and we have organized efforts to rebuild the hatchery and environmental education centre into something that will serve the community well and honour the hard work and contributions of so many. If you would like to contribute to the rebuilding project, there are several ways you can help: 1) Cheque made payable to “Port Moody Foundation” with “Mossom Creek Hatchery Project" in the memo line. Mail cheque to: Mossom Creek Hatchery, 300 Ioco Road, Port Moody, BC, V3H 2V7 or contact us for pick up. Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $25. If you do not require a donation tax receipt, cheque can be made payable directly to "BIMES". 2) Make a safe and secure credit card donation through the Port Moody Foundation at www.PortMoodyFoundation.ca. Click the DONATE NOW link and select Mossom Creek Hatchery. 3) TD Canada Trust Direct Deposit into the Mossom Creek Hatchery account, (BIMES) at any TD branch. There is a black and white photo of myself viewing the smoldering rubble. Thanks to our new volunteer, Neil Laffra, the photo sums up how I think many of us feel.

after-fire

In our first day, we have secured the water flow to our coho in the tubs and we have begun the process of making our insurance claim.

Mossom Creek - Day After Fire

We are warmed by the well-wishes and condolences we have received. It shows how special a place we have.

Please be assured that we will rebuild. It will be better than ever. Let’s get ready for next fall’s returning salmon!
